Summer DIY: Flower Embroidery Hoop Wreath

Posted on June 10, 2019June 25, 2019 by The Basic Moms

Summer is here, and while I’m not ready for the Houston heat and humidity, I am here for the summer home decor. Therefore, it is time to whip up something crafty and pink to brighten up my home, I’m thinking a gorgeous flower embroidery hoop wreath.

I have had my eye on an embroidery hoop wreath for a while. In fact, I have had most of the supplies on hand for months. And thanks to Hobby Lobby’s annual clearance sale that has been happening this past month, I finally bought the last piece of the wreath! By the way, if you love Hobby Lobby and are “in need” of some new decor items, then run to your nearest store and see if they still have any of their 75 percent clearance left.

Here’s what you are going to need to get crafty:

  • Embroidery Hoop (Mine is 18”)
  • Faux Flowers (I used Tulips)
  • Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue

Now, only needing three materials, you might be thinking, “are you sure it is that easy?” Yes. But, you and the hot glue might get into a disagreement. I always seem to get burned by my hot glue gun–it never fails. So, let’s muster up that courage and get to crafting.

First, if your flowers come connected in a bunch, you will need to separate them. Mine just slid right off, super easy–the easiest part of the project. If yours don’t slide right off, cut them off with some scissors or wire cutters, depending on what you have closest to you.

Then, you need to think about how you want your hoop wreath to look, or just start gluing those flowers on–trust me, it will turn out beautiful either way. I started gluing my tulips right where the embroidery hoop comes together, I was set on hiding that thing. Once I got the first few down, it got easier to just get some hot glue on the stem and press it on to the hoop. This is where the hot glue and I got into it a little bit–she always likes to burn me. I am seriously surprised that my fingerprints are still intact from all the years of using my hot glue gun.

Once I had about 10 tulips glued down, I stopped and started going the other way. I glued about 10 more tulips facing the other direction, and then it was done.

I stared at my wreath and I was like YES, she is here. Then my daughter came in and said, “Is that for me?” In my head, my thoughts were not child appropriate, but I told her that she could have it hung in her room soon. In which she replied, “Thank you, Mommy. And how’s my tent coming along.” We have yet to hang the wreath in her room or her tent, but it will be done this summer.

I hope you make this simple flower embroidery hoop wreath for summer. You can spice it up any way you would like. Make sure to tag us in it on Instagram @Ur_Basic_Mom.
