My name is Chelsea and I’m Type A. I make lists. I cross things off my list. It makes me feel good. All of the responsibilities that come with being a mom of two and working full-time outside of my home makes it difficult to get everything done inside our home. I hated the idea of spending hours of my weekend, essentially my only free time, cleaning our house.
So, I took to Pinterest to see how people were getting things done and that’s where I discovered cleaning schedules.
The concept is right up my alley because it involves a list. Duh. But also because we are taking a large task and breaking it down into small, manageable steps/tasks. Anyone that struggles with attention and completing tasks knows this is the first strategy to conquering your to-do list.
From there, I created my weekly cleaning schedule & habit list. I took all of the things I wanted clean and assigned each one to a day, taking into consideration how much time I have each night to clean. Each weeknight I could see myself dedicating around 30 minutes to cleaning. I also thought about how I would want certain parts of the house clean for the weekend, in case we had visitors, so I specifically put those things on Thursday and Friday.
For instance, I wanted to be sure the powder room and kitchen floors are clean for the weekend, so I saved those for the end of the week. I keep laundry for the weekends, so I know I can finish washing and drying, and then the dreadful step of folding and putting it away for Sunday.
People started asking for my cleaning sheet when they saw me using it on The Basic Moms Instagram, so I’m happy to share it! Obviously, we all have different cleaning tasks, so feel free to personalize it to your needs.
BONUS: I print my sheet out double-sided because the back includes a grocery shopping list and meal breakdown for the week.
This has been a super helpful tool for me in making sure I’m getting everything done and there’s no better feeling than having all of those boxes checked off! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t always complete all of my cleaning on the assigned night and that’s fine. I just know if it’s not checked, I can do it another night OR see if it can wait until next week.
